History & Formation

The RRBs were established in India under RRB Act 1976 [23(1)]. As per Govt of India notification no 3837 dated 26.11.2019, Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, Purvanchal Bank and Kashi Gomti Samyut Gramin Bank has been amalgamated in to Baroda U.P. Bank under sponsorship of Bank of Baroda


Latest Amalgamation (Effective 1 May 2025)

According to Gazette Notification No. CG-DL-E-07042025-262329, dated 7 April 2025, the Government of India has further amalgamated:

  • Baroda UP Bank (sponsored by Bank of Baroda)
  • Prathama UP Gramin Bank (sponsored by Punjab National Bank)
  • Aryavart Bank (sponsored by Bank of India)

into a single Regional Rural Bank named Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank. This new entity is sponsored by Bank of Baroda, and its head office is located in Lucknow. The merger is effective from 1 May 2025.
